ABOUT

The Stuttgart Counseling & Psychotherapy Network provides a comprehensive directory of mental health professionals for the English-speaking community in Stuttgart and Baden-Württemberg.

The network was established in 2013 by a group of English-speaking mental health professionals who recognized the challenges internationals face in accessing support. Their goal was to help English-speaking clients in the region connect with qualified mental health professionals. Since then, the network has grown and remains an essential resource for the community.

Counseling & Psychotherapy

Our network consists of independent practitioners, each trained to listen attentively and support you in moving forward. It is important to note that not all counselors and psychotherapists work in the same way: our directory represents a wide range of distinct approaches, backgrounds, cultures, worldviews, and experiences. This diversity ensures that clients can find a practitioner whose perspective and methods align with their individual needs. At the same time, research has shown that the therapeutic relationship between you and your practitioner is more important than the specific methods used. Therefore, before beginning to work together, the practitioner will usually ask you to complete a form or attend an initial appointment to help determine if you feel comfortable working together.

You may come from a non-English speaking background and be unable to find a practitioner who speaks your native language. English serves as the common language of communication within our network. Many of the practitioners listed on this website have extensive experience working with speakers of other languages, and all understand firsthand the challenges of moving countries and adapting to new cultures.

What should I look for in a counselor, psychologist, or therapist?
When choosing a mental health professional, consider the following:

  • Membership of a professional association: Membership often indicates a commitment to ongoing professional development and standards.

  • Adherence to an ethical framework: This ensures your practitioner follows recognized ethical guidelines.

Will my health insurance pay?

  • Most English-language practitioners listed here operate on a private pay basis and do not accept public German health insurance, such as AOK, TK, BKK, DKK, hKK, and others.
